Abstract:

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM), the seventh leading cause of death, is a biggest challenge for mankind. Despite of fascinating advances in pharmaco-therapeutic agents, the prevalence of T2DM is growing every year. Complementary and Alternative medicine (CAM) as classified by National centre of CAM have documented various positive results of T2DM. Whole ancient medical systems like Ayurveda, Siddha, and TCM etc use natural herbs either as a single drug therapy or in the form of formulations, depending upon principles of respective medical system. Studies done on various herbs and mind body intervention like, yoga, acupuncture etc are found to be beneficial for T2DM. This resulted, large number of physicians either referring to or practicing some of the more prominent and well known forms of CAM.

The concepts proposed and used by these CAM systems (that are kept alive by CAM practitioners for thousands of years) appear very mysterious to the present day biomedical practitioners. These models of therapies seem to have evolved through several phases of internal research just like the present day drug trials that go through 4 phases of intensive statistical evaluation. It appears that today’s scientists need to follow the footsteps of research used by the ancient seers of TCM, Ayurveda, Siddha, Yoga or Homeopathy to unravel these mysterious theories.

This review talks about generating evidence not only for the efficacy of these holistic systems but also in carrying out systematic research by biomedical scientist who have the knowledge of both the western and eastern sciences.

Abstract:

Wet cupping is a form of bloodletting that involves first making superficial incisions on the skin, then applying the suction cups to suck out small amount of blood. It is the application performed to draw out stagnant, congested blood and Vital Force, as well as other stagnant or morbid humors.

Cupping therapy is an incredibly ancient and universal practice that spans both East and West.  In the East, the Chinese have been practicing the art of cupping for at least three thousand years.  Cupping is applied to the acupuncture points to relieve the stagnation of Qi and blood, both locally and in the organ(s) activated by the point.

In the West, cupping therapy had its birth in Egypt.  The Ebers Papyrus, written around 1550 B.C.E., states that bleeding by wet cupping removes foreign matter from the body. The ancient Egyptians passed the art of cupping on to the ancient Greeks.  Both Hippocrates and Galen were staunch advocates and users of cupping therapy. From the ancient Greeks and Romans, through the Alexandrians and Byzantines, cupping therapy was passed on to the Muslim Arabs and Persians.  Cupping is now an important and popular therapeutic modality of Unani (Greek) Medicine.

In the West, wet cupping therapy remained an important part of medicine and therapy, both conventional, alternative, and folk-based, until the early 20th century.

After falling out of favor with medicine in the modern era, cupping therapy is enjoying resurgence in popularity, promoted by acupuncturists, Unani (Greek) medicine physicians and other holistic healthcare practitioners.  New and exciting variations on this ancient technique, like cupping massage, are also being developed.

One secret of cupping's perennial popularity is its great ability to promote a state of deep pleasure and profound relaxation.  Hopefully, cupping is here to stay.

Abstract:

At her first period a woman meets her wisdom. Menopause is a natural transition and when did human culture start thinking of menopause as a disease rather than a natural phase to be valued in a woman’s life? Having worked several hours in a health care instutiion and R & D center, I am very concerned with the number of women who specifically unhappy about hormone imbalances. When I probe deeper to understand and searched a literature and found  they routinely dependable on allopathic doctors only, has told them they are having panic attacks rather than notice the natural correlation with their age and symptoms coinciding with perimenopause. Several women I obesered  noticed have they are having complete hysterectomies due to the fact their periods were irregular during this perimenopause period and that they were also give antidepressants to curb the aiety and mood swings that came with perimenopause. Those were the only options besides continuing on birth control, which comes with significant side effects particularly for women over 40. Feeling a deep compassion for these women and approaching perimenopause in my own life, I began researching therapy to manage menopausal symptoms. The vast amount of research that should exist on this topic is minimal. Allopathic, additional and alternative therapy research was underwhelming at best, but optimistic for those integrative practitioners who are willing to focus on a significantly overlooked area of female medicine.

Abstract:

Overweight and obesity have reached epidemic proportions in the 21st century affecting 5% of the population and is the most commonly occurring lifestyle disease today.

Patients having symptoms and signs of sthaulya, having a BMI>25 were included in the study. Weight, BMI, Lipid profile levels, body measurements taken at various levels, anthropometrics features and Percent body fat were assessed.

The selected patients were randomly grouped into 2 groups.           In the first group rookshana karma was done by triphala choornam , followed by deepana- pachana , followed by Snehapana with guggulu tiktaka ghrita for 4 -7 days. Finally   Virechana karma was administered with trivrit choorna. In the second Group Trayushnadya loha was given at a dose of 4 tablets of 250 mg.

Observation & Results: After Virechana, It was noticed that there was a 5.70 % reduction in weight and a reduction in BMI by 5.64%. S.Cholesterol was reduced by 7.49 %, S.Triglyceride by 21.47 %, which were both statistically highly significant, LDL was reduced by 7.52 %, and VLDL was reduced by 39.70 %.

Since the person takes mainly ghee , there is acceleration of fat utilization for energy. Thus it has an apatarpana effect on the body. The average routine consumption of a person per day is about 2300 calories, while here the maximum consumption was reduced to 1750 calories, thus causing a negative energy balance. Here, the secretory action of the mucous membrane is exploited and the body fluids are influenced for therapeutic purposes.

Title: The entourage effect of ‘closed’ colon hydrotherapy and its uses in the 21st century
Speaker
Biography:

Susan In the past 15 years has not only healed herself but has worked with 100’s of people to reclaim their health from recovering from cancer, reversing diabetes, mental health issues along with many digestive disorders. In 2016 and 2017 she conducted A Colon Hydrotherapy and Gut health conference in Australia and spoke at the Spanish Association of Colon Hydrotherapy in Barcelona in 2016. In 2015, she set up a franchise system and currently has 7 clinics.

Abstract:

Colon Hydrotherapy is an age-old therapy with it written in the Egyptian medical document discovered by Ebers from 1500 BC.. Over the years and still today it can mean many different systems to undertake the cleansing process of the colon.  Colon Hydrotherapy can mean Enema, Colema Board, an ‘open’ system, such as the Libbe system, gravity system, sometimes known as the woods system, ‘closed’ colonics or even colon lavage.  Due to these different systems being bundled together it can be a confusing for the potential client, and any referring practitioners. This leaves this therapy underutilized and misunderstood.

Why do we need closed colonics today like never before? We have rates of cancer, diabetes, obesity, auto-immune, autism increasing at a rapid rate, not decreasing. We have fertility issues in both men and woman, we are burying our children for the first time in history. We are doing something fundamentally wrong.

Drawing on the work of Dr Batmanghelidj, Dr Jensen and Ilya Ilyich Mechnikov, closed colonics is a ‘therapy’ that can, when used correctly re-hydrate, chronically dehydrated patients, it can remove the toxic waste not just from the bowels but from the cells, it can offer the body the opportunity to find homeostasis to get well.

With the Rojas soaking technique performed with the intention and understanding that we are affecting the lymphatic system, the nervous system, the microbial system, the digestive system and the emotional Spiritual system, this therapy offers healing to the whole person.

Title: 100 Patterns of pulse for accurate diagnosis and healing in acupuncture.
Speaker
Biography:

Sumita Satarkar has completed her  PhD at the age of 39 years from Open International  University for Complementary Medicine , Colombo and  doing another Doctorate and Phd in Integrative Medicine at International Quantum University of Integrative Medicine , USA. She has presented more than 50 papers in National and International conferences in India and overseas.

She is 1st Indian woman Acupuncturist represented  in United Nations , Newyork.

Abstract:

Pulse is one of the most important diagnostic tool used from ancient times, which needs accuracy and focus. Unlike any other faculty of medicine, this age old science of alternative healing is a study of ‘energy’ which neither can be measured nor be seen .It can only be palpated at the wrist. Palpation and its interpretation bring forth the detail analysis of energy and its patterns and thus further can be accurately diagnose the exact illness or disorder. This is called a ‘’ Pulse diagnosis.’’

Because of the need of going deeper into my own understanding and knowledge, I started researching and studying this subject intensely and got some extraordinary results.

Following is the brief summary of my findings so far as my research is going on at present.

THE PULSE & DIAGNOSIS PATTERNS

The Pulse has dynamism, fluidity, and changeability. It is multi-dimensional in depth, rate, rhythm, strength, shape etc reflecting the overall wellbeing in person, identifying the state of mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

MY FINDINGS:

The Pulse is the study of around 1,00,000 patients so far, has shown me a clear, multi- layered and textured picture of these dimensions. This led me go deeper into analyzing it further, to finally find approximately 100 definite patterns, proving as  the most effective guiding tool in diagnosing the complete ill and/or otherwise condition of patients and help to understand the line of treatment and prognosis of the disease.

Abstract:

1962, Alma Ata, the World Health Organization (WHO) sponsored an international Conference at the University of Kazakhstan, deliberations and understandings in this conference would  about two and half decades later  build up to the  Alma Ata Declaration in 1978, i.e. global strategy for public health and preventive medicine which epitomized as Health for all by the year 2000 AD.

This strategy entailed the use of all available healing methods of both Orthodox, Traditional (TM)-Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) to reach this goal, and has given impetus to the recent global development of CAM & TM.

CAM/TM practices has had an unbelievable global demand and some sort of  acceptance that it is becoming an integral part of some country’s Health Care Delivery Services, as Countries like China, India, France, Saudi Arabia and others have at various stages incorporated CAM  to their health care delivery system, and their people are just loving it !!

The global upsurge in the demand for CAM services is traceable to the many clients who troop to CAM facilities to seek other healing options.

Concerns raised by clients who have been on long use of some Conventional Medicines/Services include but not limited to-

-Iatrogenesis.

-Life time dependence on medications and other procedures for chronic disease sufferers.

CAM has great prospect in Africa, reportedly about 78% of the African populace rely on TM/CAM practices for their health care needs.

Presently, Nigeria and South Africa are taking the lead in Africa to some extent in the proper structuring of the CAM/TM Systems.

*Increase in optional access to various Therapeutics Modes & Increase in life expectancy rate are some prospects of CAM defined in this work.

The challenges of CAM though daunting are not unsurmountable, i.e.

*Standardization, proper Educational/Professional Structures and others can come to the rescue.
